New Orleanians never stop celebrating once the warm weather hits. Normally, there is a bit more space between Mardi Gras day and St. Patty's day, but Easter was so late this year that the celebrations basically ran one right after the other (note: next up is "festival" season - multiple food and song events, including jazz fest, are held every weekend in late March and April). Even though most of us are still recovering from our post-Mardi Gras colds, we mustered up what energy we had to head out to the parade routes this past weekend. I even donned an Irish-themed costume (t-shirt from Pittsburgh, white wig, orange and green Mardi Gras beads, and green accents). Everyone was wearing green - as they say, "Everyone is Irish on St. Patty's Day." I stopped by two parades this past weekend - one that congregated outside Molly's at the Market on Friday night and one that took place on Magazine Street on Saturday afternoon. The French Quarter parade, not surprisingly, was a little less kid-friendly than the Irish Chanel parade. Both were very fun - lots of beads, lots of cabbages (one of the many quirky things that people throw from the floats for St. Patty's day), lots of sunshine and good conversation.
